All Kinds of Kinds (Originally posted on Facebook Nov 3, 2012)

I was listening to Miranda Lambert's song, "It Takes All Kinds of Kinds" the other morning and it got me to thinking. Our lives can be compared to a puzzle that is trying to be put together. The borders (or boundaries) are made up of our morals, values, beliefs and give us a framework in which we live our lives. The rest of the puzzle is made up of the things we do and the people we know. There are various numbers of puzzle pieces we come into contact with throughout our lives. Some of them are meant to fit into our puzzles while others aren't. Sometimes when putting together a puzzle we may find pieces that we believe are supposed to fit and we may even try to force them to fit into a particular place in the puzzle. No matter how hard we try and want them to fit, they just aren't meant to be there. Sometimes I wonder if we do this with the people in our lives and the things we choose to do. It's easy to find someone that we really believe is supposed to play a certain role in our lives and we may try as hard as we can to make it happen. Sometimes we believe that by doing something it will make a big difference in our lives even though there is something that tells us it's not the answer we're looking for. When we try to fit these people and things into our lives when they don't believe, it stops us from trying to find the right pieces and moving forward with developing our life's puzzle. Sometimes the people and ideas we have are a piece of our puzzle, it's just not time for them to be in place. And sometimes when putting together a puzzle we see a piece that we don't think could possible fit until we try it and discover it was the right one after all. The same can be said for the people and things in our lives. Sometimes we may see people in our lives and possibilities and think they can't possibly be the right thing for us right now. It isn't until we give them a try that we find they were in fact the right idea. The trick with life, as with putting together puzzles, is that we have to be open to find the right pieces of the puzzle in order for things to come together in harmony. So Miranda was right, it takes all kinds of kinds. It also takes the right kinds of kinds.
